Pilates is a great mind body workout that helps to decrease stress. Pilates focuses on activating your core muscles and teaches you how to access intrinsic muscles deep within the body, requiring intense focus and concentration, causing you to forget about that to do list or stressful meeting. Pilates also focuses on the breath, which sparks the parasympathetic nervous system to be calm. There are various machines from the Reformer (seen above) to the Cadillac designed to provide feedback while moving to correct alignment, posture and imbalances. It’s beneficial to all ages, after all you are only as young as your spine, per Joseph Pilates. It’s a safe,gentle, functional fitness workout!
